STREAMS

Students are acquainted with all the subjects in their Primary, Middle and High school years. This ensures an all-round holistic development of the child in the formative years and a basic knowledge of all the subjects. It is from Grade 9 onwards that the ICSE norm of allowing students to opt for Commercial Studies in lieu of Sciences in Group II and an Elective from Computer Applications / Economic Applications / Cookery / Physical Education in Group III is followed.

CURRICULUM

We follow ICSE curriculum across Primary, Middle and High School, ISC curriculum for Grade 11 & 12. In the lower classes, the school does explore beyond the curriculum in the form of special activities to help students in their all-round development.

LABORATORIES

Sishu Griha is all for lending budding scientists every support they need to blossom into future inventors and for this reason the school makes it a point to keep its laboratories well-furnished, updated and accessible to all its students.

LANGUAGES

Sishu Griha not only follows the three-language formula but also gives students a variety of options because it recognises that with the advent of rapid globalisation the knowledge of multiple languages is becoming more and more essential. English is the first language and medium of instruction. Kannada, being the state language, is a second language. Students can also opt for French or Sanskrit as their third language.

LIBRARY

The well-furnished library at Sishu Griha, with its treasure trove of books ranging from encyclopaedias, reference books, fiction, biographies and novels to journals, magazines and newsletters to help facilitate research for projects and assignments make it a most-frequented place. A complete refurbishment of the library that has been aided by computerisation provides easy accessibility to books.

Apart from academic pursuits, the school stresses equally on both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities because these exercises not only help develop the overall personality of the students but also improve their life skills. Students have taken part actively in Model United Nations, Parliamentary Debates, Olympiads, Product Designing and Marketing and quiz contents and brought recognition and laurels for their Alma Mater.

Q-SHALA

QShala is a platform that fosters curiosity in children and instils a mindset of continuous, holistic learning while empowering them with essential life skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, compassion and confidence. Through unique learning experiences like quizzes, quests, and storytelling, QShala helps develop a deep love for learning in children and prepares them for the rapidly changing 21st century. Students from Grades 6 to 9 are part of this program.

SAPA

Sishu Griha in partnership with Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts brings music into the classrooms and exposes students to the various genres of music from around the world. The underlying philosophy of the programme is that music has transformative powers to bring about positive changes in the society and mindsets of people. The programme caters to Grade 6 to 8 in the Senior School. SAPA in association with the Norwegian Academy of Music will bring in international musicians once a year to conduct workshops for the students of Sishu Griha in the programme.

SPORTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Sishu Griha recognises the importance of sports in school curriculum and the vital role it plays in boosting self-confidence and ensuring a holistic development of the students.  All the classes are allotted mandatory Sports period, and Yoga classes are conducted weekly to help students stay fit and cope with stress. Team Matchless, a sports initiative, run by a group of talented young sportspersons, has been rendering yeoman’s service at the school by training students in various fields of sports. The school also organises Inter-Section and Inter-House Leagues. High School students are offered Physical Education as an optional subject as a part of the school curriculum. The school also encourages and facilitates students to follow their passion in various kinds of sports outside school.  Qualified and experienced coaches from different disciplines train students.

SUPW AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

Hamsadhwani, a school for the speech and hearing impaired, has been adopted by our institution and the students of this school receive clothes, groceries and other miscellaneous items every year. Apart from this, our students bring joy and cheer into the lives of their less-fortunate brethren by interacting with them. The newly-launched SFS (Student For Student) programme, started by a group of enterprising people, takes on the onus of training our students to educate the underprivileged children of another school. The philanthropic arm of the school extends to other organisations too and they receive aid in the form of cutlery, clothes, and woollens.

FIELD TRIP AND OUTINGS

The spirit of adventure is an innate quality in children. In today’s gadget-controlled lives, it has become vital to explore and tap this spirit within, from a young age. The school makes arrangements for a field trip every year because it believes in granting children a chance to gather wisdom beyond the confines of a classroom. With this goal in mind, Sishu Griha takes students on field trips to encourage the thrill of purposeful adventure and exploration. It is noteworthy that apart from such trips, Sishu Griha also takes interest in planning star gazing activities whenever possible, here students learn to marvel at the sky. There have also been educational visits to villages to interact with villagers and government school students. The students are involved in health camps along with an NGO and help in spreading the message of hygiene and good sanitation habits. Such visits sensitise them to the difficulties of the less privileged.
Apart from the delight of being outdoors, students learn the value of physical activities, time management, interaction with peers, self-responsibility, looking after juniors and sharpening their communication skills. Sishu Griha takes pride in fostering such a spirit of adventure combined with responsibility and hopes to engage the students in similar meaningful activities in the future.

EXHIBITIONS (ANVESHAN)

Anveshan is a platform for students to exhibit their avishkaars (inventions) in the subject of their choice. The students speak about their projects to visitors and thereby develop public speaking skills. Boosting the confidence of the students and grooming their personality is at the heart of such open forums.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Assessment is a very important tool with which the child, the parents and the school can track academic progress. Three unit tests and two examinations are conducted during the year. The Detailed Assessment programme in the Middle School for English, Math and Science is conducted and a project is assigned in every subject. Non-academic aspects such as work habits and classroom behaviour are also assessed and form a part of the Continuous Internal Assessment. All forms of assessment at Sishu Griha are conducted in a non-threatening, non-competitive environment. Hence, the only person a child competes with, is himself or herself.

NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITIVE EXAMS

The following are the optional national level competitive exams that children can avail of:
Asset Aptitude Tests | Math Olympiad | Science Olympiad | Cyber Olympiad | French Olympiad | English Olympiad

MUN

The School also annually organises an inter-school MUN (Model United Nations) which is quite popular among schools in Bangalore (read more link to MUN page)

SKILL BASED TESTS

Skill based tests have been an integral part of Sishu Griha’s learning process and the school realises the importance of such tests as an assessment tool for every student. [read more]

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The Orientation Programmes that are conducted by the school for the parents on a regular basis are done keeping the best interest of the child in mind. These programmes aim at helping the child focus on academics and other aspects, from every perspective – be it assessments, the syllabus to be covered, the work expected, the management of time, maintaining a healthy relationship with all concerned and the like.

These programmes also go a long way in including the parents and involving them in their child’s development. They are made aware of the various activities that the school has planned for the overall development of their child, thereby, bridging further, the gap between the school and the parents.
